Electric Vehicle Thermal Control Systems Engineer

We are looking for a seasoned engineer with experiences in Thermal Control Systems, Systems Engineering, Requirement Authorship, Feature Validation, FMEAs, and Functional Safety as applied to electrified (Hybrid, Plug-in, and electric-only) vehicles. Electrified vehicles contain significant additional hardware and software in order to operate when compared with conventional gasoline and diesel vehicles. You will join a diverse group of engineers who lead in the development of electrified vehicles globally for Ford Motor Company at the engineering center in Dearborn, Michigan.

 

In this position...

Each engineer has responsibility for one or more features/functions in an electrified vehicle. Features such as thermal management of the high voltage battery, power electronics, and vehicle cabin while coordinating usage of the high voltage battery power are critical to the fuel efficiency, performance, and life of the vehicles. In this position, you will mainly work on Electrified Vehicles heat pump thermal management, refrigerant and compressor controls, electronic expansion valves, heat exchangers, and coolant distribution controls, commanding pumps and valve, to flow appropriate amounts of coolant at specified target temperatures to the HV battery, power electronics, and cabin.

You will be authoring the control system requirements and be testing these requirements in our vehicles as well as various testing environments (bread boards, Hardware in the Loop Bench’s, etc.). The Global Electrified Powertrain Engineering is in Dearborn Michigan and is comprised of a diverse array of engineers from multiple backgrounds and regions. You'll have...

  • BSEE, BSME or BS in Electrical Engineering , Computer Science , or Systems Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or related degree; or foreign equivalency degree, or a combination of equivalent experience and education.
  • 5+ years of Systems Engineering experience
  • 1+ years of work experience in product design
  • A valid driver's license is required.

 

Even better, you may have...

  • M.S. in Mechanical, Controls, or Software engineering
  • 8+ years of engineering work experience
  • Experience in thermal management of the high voltage battery, power electronics, and vehicle cabin
  • Knowledge of electrified vehicle and subsystem operating principles
  • Knowledge of system engineering principles
  • Knowledge of powertrain controls and calibration
  • Knowledge of ISO 26262 principles and practice
  • Demonstrated strong analytical skills
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and track tasks and drive them to completion
  • The ability to understand "C" code
  • Ability to create and verify mathematical models using commonly-available modeling software
  • Experience developing component or system requirements
  • Experience working globally across cultural and organizational boundaries
  • Strong teamwork skills and the ability to work with multiple groups of engineers
  • Very good written and oral communications skills
